MATCH RECAP: New York Red Bulls II 2, Harrisburg City Islanders 0

HARRISBURG, PA (July 18, 2015) – New York Red Bulls II took advantage of 10-man Harrisburg City Islanders in an important win for Red Bulls II at Skyline Sports Complex, 2-0. Leo Stolz opened the scoring in the seventy-fourth minute, and Daniel Bedoya doubled the advantage in the seventy-ninth, his first goal of the season.

The road victory improves Red Bulls II to 7-7-4 on the season. NYRB II are now in fifth place of the Eastern Conference standings.

New York wasted no time and applied pressure early. For the first 20 minutes of the match, Red Bulls II dominated possession and nearly broke the deadlock. In the sixteenth minute Marius Obekop flashed a low-driven ball across the face of goal, but no one was available to apply the necessary tap-in to open the scoring.

Red Bulls II thought they had the go-ahead goal shortly afterwards when Chris Tsonis cleverly laid off a pass to Obekop who fired from point-blank range, but goalkeeper Nick Noble made the save.

Harrisburg eventually settled into the game and Craig Foster, who scored against NYRB II last week, had his team’s best chance when he split the Red Bulls II defense. Castano charged off his line to confront the attacker and made a kick-save to deny Foster.

The game changed in the sixty-fifth minute when Dante Laverock took down Juan Sanchez, earning his second yellow card of the match, and an ejection. In the seventy-fourth minute, Red Bulls II took advantage.

A scrum in the penalty box spawned when New York pushed heavy numbers forward. The ball entered the six-yard box and a Harrisburg defender attempted to clear, instead deflecting his clearance off of Sanchez. The deflected ball flew to the center of the box, where Stolz, alone in space, wound up and smashed his shot into the back of the net.

Minutes later, Franklin Castellanos connected with Bedoya in the box. Bedoya finished the chance to double the New York advantage, the first professional goal of his career. NYRB II held on to the two-goal lead and took advantage of an important six-pointer away from home.

Next week, New York Red Bulls II return home to Red Bull Arena to face Richmond Kickers on Saturday, July 25 at 4 p.m. EDT.
