Hanover, N.J. (July 23, 2016) – New York Red Bulls II fell 3-2 at home to the Charleston Battery on Saturday afternoon at the Red Bulls’ facility in Hanover. New York battled back after giving up two early goals, but Charleston found a winner in the second half.

The loss moves NYRB II to 12-2-5 on the season, their first loss in 12 games.

Charleston took an early lead in the ninth minute as Maikel Chang headed home a long throw in by O’Brian Woodbine.

In the 29th minute the Battery doubled the advantage as Romario Williams finished off a ball from O’Brian Woodbine.

New York’s best chance of the first half came in the 37th minute when forward Anatole Abang tried to go near post, but his shot went just wide.

California native Stefano Bonomo opened the scoring for Red Bulls II in the 55th minute, just three minutes after coming on as a sub. Florian Valot was played in on the right side by Abang and then sent a low pass across the face of goal to find a sliding Bonomo.

Just five minutes later Red Bulls II would equalize as current Red Bulls academy player Kevin O’Toole scored his first professional goal. O’Toole lofted in a cross from the left side that eluded everyone and fell inside the far post.

Charleston would quickly take back the lead, this time for good, in the 66th minute with Heviel Cordoves finishing off a cross from Chang.

New York had a flurry of chances late in the game but the Charleston players packed the box to avoid an equalizer.

Stefano Bonomo was sent off in stoppage time after receiving a straight red card.

Red Bulls II will head back on the road to face the Richmond Kickers on Saturday July 30.
