  • The New York Red Bulls defeated Antigua Guatemala FC on Wednesday night at Red Bull Arena in the first match of Group F in the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League.
  • New York benefitted from an own goal in the 16th minute, while Alex Muyl and Sacha Kljestan added goals in the second half.
  • The three goals in a match are the most New York has scored in a SCCL game, and the 3-0 score line also marks the largest margin of victory.
  • Muyl had a hand in the first two goals, as he launched the original shot that deflected in off of a defender for the first goal.
  • In the second half, Muyl was able to corral a hard, low cross from Kemar Lawrence in the box, make space for himself and fire a shot into the open goal.
  • Sacha Kljestan entered the game in the 78th minute and scored almost immediately on a quick give-and-go with Gonzalo Veron.
  • Kljestan now has seven goals on the season and has scored in MLS, U.S. Open Cup and CONCACAF Champions League.
  • Kemar Lawrence earned the start and played 62 minutes, his first game action since May 18.
  • Derrick Etienne Jr. entered as a sub in the 69th minute, making his first team debut, replacing Shaun Wright-Phillips.
  • With Tyler Adams, Sean Davis and Alex Muyl starting the match, and Connor Lade and Etienne Jr. subbing in, it marked the first time New York has had five Homegrown Players on the field in a competitive match.
  • Ryan Meara earned the start and the clean sheet. Meara also started all four games of the Red Bulls’ 2014 SCCL campaign and earned two shutouts.
  • MLS action resumes with a trip to Los Angeles to face the Galaxy on Sunday, August 7. Kickoff is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. ET, with coverage on FS1, FOX Deportes and Red Bulls Radio.
  • The Red Bulls are next home to host the Montreal Impact on Saturday, August 13 at 7 p.m.
