Red Bulls Have 'Targets Outside of MLS'

Ali Curtis

The New York Red Bulls will be looking outside of Major League Soccer this offseason.

"We’ve got some targets outside of MLS," Sporting Director Ali Curtis said at the team's final media day of 2016.

Curtis said the team is looking for one or two main pieces that can supplement the already-strong core of the team. But with the some key offseason dates coming up soon, the team has to be smart about their roster decisions.

"We’ve got a lot of quality players and so going into the Expansion Draft, going into the Re-entry Draft, going into free agency and the Waiver Draft," Curtis said. "How can we be calculated and measured about every decision we make with regard to the offseason?"

The front office will evaluate players within the league and outside of it, the sporting director said.

"How can we take a couple days, take a week, take a step back, figure this thing out and make some smart measured decisions?" Curtis said. "Because we’ve got a really good group of staff and we’ve got a really good group of players."
