LOS ANGELES (January 14, 2017) – New York Red Bulls head coach Jesse Marsch met the media ahead of the 2017 MLS SuperDraft.

“Since the new year I haven’t been in Salzburg, I’ve been in Portugal with Leipzig,” Marsch said. “I’m the New York Red Bulls coach.”

When pressed on not being in attendance for the MLS Combine, a stretch of three days during the week leading up to the draft where eligible college draftees are given an opportunity to showcase their talents in front of MLS club technical staffs, Marsch lauded his surrounding coaching staff and scouting network who appeared in person at StubHub Center in Los Angeles while staying in constant contact with him in Lisbon.

“We have what I think is the best staff in Major League Soccer and I’m very lucky that way and it’s a staff that I trust fully,” Marsch said. “We decided to split our responsibilities to have them go to the Combine.

“I watched the games online and through video…I’m familiar with all the players in the college game right now.”

Jesse Marsch and the New York Red Bulls selected Zeiko Lewis and Ethan Kutler in the first two rounds of the MLS SuperDraft.
