- The New York Red Bulls fell to Seattle Sounders FC, 3-1 in Sunday afternoon at CenturyLink Field in Seattle. The loss is New York’s first of the 2017 MLS regular season.
- The setback snapped a franchise-record 18-game unbeaten streak in league play. The streak began on July 3, 2016 with a win over rival New York City FC.
- Bradley Wright-Phillips got New York’s goal, the 70th of his MLS career. Wright-Phillips headed home a cross from Sal Zizzo in the 57th minute to tie the game at one.
- Fredrik Gulbrandsen made his first MLS start just over a week after joining the team. Gulbrandsen was in the starting XI after making his MLS debut last week as a late sub. The forward is with New York on loan from FC Red Bull Salzburg in the Austrian Bundesliga.
- Sacha Kljestan departed for San Jose directly after the game to join up with the U.S. Men’s National Team. Kljestan will be with the U.S. for a pair of World Cup Qualifiers on March 24 and 28.
