HARRISON, N.J. (May 8, 2017) – New York Red Bulls Homegrown midfielder Tyler Adams departed yesterday for a fitness camp with the U.S. Under-20 National Team. The U-20s, under head coach Tab Ramos, are currently in final preparations for the upcoming FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Korea Republic. A final roster for the tournament will be announced by U.S. Soccer at a later date.

Adams helped the U-20s win their first CONCACAF U-20 Championship earlier this season. Adams, the first player to participate in the Red Bulls’ Regional Development School program and progress through the academy system to the First Team, totaled four starts in the competition and played the full 90 minutes in three of his appearances. Adams was forced to make an early exit the opening match of the tournament due to injury and missed two games. He returned to the lineup for the final three matches to help the U.S. U-20’s to their first CONCACAF title.

Adams has entrenched himself into the Red Bulls Starting XI since he was given an opportunity to start against Real Salt Lake on March 25. Since then, Adams has started six of the last seven matches and has played in 615 of the 630 possible minutes. The defensive midfielder has been crucial in New York’s defensive success, anchoring a defensive third that has held three opponents scoreless since Adams was implemented in the starting rotation.

Adams is one of eight Homegrown players on the Red Bulls first team roster. The Wappingers Falls, New York, native has seen the most minutes of the eight Homegrowns at 615 and is tied with Alex Muyl for the most starts with seven.
