NYRB II Post-Game Quote Sheet
NYRB II 0, Harrisburg 2
FNB Field - Harrisburg, Pa. – July 12, 2017
New York Red Bulls II Head Coach John Wolyniec
Thoughts on the match despite outpossessing Harrisburg?

JW: Yeah, tough to turn around from Sunday, we played two games in the heat. We didn’t come out well, gave away too much early, started to get a grip on the game in the second half but weren’t able to captilize in some of our good plays, we didn’t create enough of these good plays. We fought to the end so I give credit to our guys in that sense, but digging a hole early in the first half is not a good idea on a hot night when we’re playing three games in a week.

Looking forward to Saturday, more bodies on the bench against an in-form Charlotte team?

JW: Charlotte’s on a roll, obviously a tough opponent. We tend to raise our game against good teams so hopefully we can do that and it’s a tough week, a lot of work for the guys so we’ll do what we can. We’ll continue to put in minutes and make sure they continue to take care of themselves and hopefully we can get some fresh bodies on the field and put a good effort in Saturday.

Academy product Kazu Shigenobu’s first start?

JW: Kazu was with us in preseason, I grew to respect him a lot and I’ve been looking to get him some time and it’s been tough with Arun (Basuljevic) and Dan (Metzger) getting a lot of minutes. You know there’s an opportunity here and I thought he did very well for himself. He clearly needs some experience at this level but at the same time he worked really hard and put a lot of effort in. You can see that he can cover a lot of ground and can make plays as far as winning balls, playing simple and I thought he showed himself very well today.

NYRB II defender Ethan Kutler
Thoughts on scoring woes and overall defensive breakdowns?

EK: It really just comes down to who wants it more in the box and you know we had a couple good chances in both games and sometimes you don’t get lucky enough and the other team does. It’s not to say the defense is doing our job because clearly the last two games we’ve given up two goal apiece, we’re not doing our jobs and the forwards aren’t either. We got to get back to the training ground and get more confidence on and off the ball and just take it step by step to the next game.

Difficulties in playing three games in six days?

EK: You cant lie, it’s certainly tiring and always tough to play muktiple games in a week. At this point we’re playing three in six days. It’s tough on the body but we have no excuse, you know if its hot, if it’s rainy, if it’s perfect weather, we got to give 100 percent no matter what. We’ve got to empty the tank every game, no matter how many minutes we’re playing we just have to push ourselves and play our best.

Third straight 90-minute game at right back? How do you feel about your progression there?

EK: Third game in a row playing 90 minutes at right back and starting to get my feet under me a little bit. Definitely not my best performances these past couple games so I have to hold myself to a better standard, every day is a new day, every day is a learning process so I’m optimistic and ready to learn. I’ll be better moving forward.
