7 things 072017

The New York Red Bulls scored four second half goals to cruise to a 5-1 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes on Wednesday night at Red Bull Arena. Here are 7 Things We Learned from New York's big win...

4 for 5

Four Red Bulls players combined for five goals at Red Bull Arena, the first time the team scored five at Red Bull Arena since 2013.

Sean Davis, Sacha Kljestan and Felipe each had a goal, while Daniel Royer added two of his own.

The team went into the half up 1-0 on the back of Davis' goal, but saw Kljestsan and Felipe add two in quick succession in the 73rd and 75th minutes, while Royer put his in the back of the net in the 90th and 91st minutes.

Firsts

It was a game of firsts for New York.

Davis, Kljestan and Felipe all scored their first MLS goals of the season on Wednesday night.

Connor Lade had his first point of the season, assisting on Davis' goal. Derrick Etienne, Jr. had his first MLS point, assisting on Royer's first goal.

Assist, King

When Kljestan ended the night with two assists, he went into the record books alongside Theirry Henry.

The captain tied Henry for most assists in club history, with 42.

15/15

Kljestan also became the ninth player in club history to score 15 goals and notch 15 assists.

Homegrown Field

New York saw five Homegrown players take the pitch for the team on Wednesday.

Etienne Jr., Davis, Lade, Tyler Adams and Alex Muyl all saw playing time for the Red Bulls.

Gonzi Goals

Gonzalo Veron subbed on in the 68th minute and immediately had an impact on the game. Though Kljestan's goal went into the books unassisted due to a deflection, Veron kept the play alive and created the chance for the second goal of the game.

Veron later recorded his third assist of the season on Royer's second goal.

Veron has recorded at least a point in back-to-back matches and in three of the last four games.

Formation Focus

New York used a three-man back line all night, according to Jesse Marsch.

After Lade left the game, Muyl slotted in to replace him.
