USL Match Recap: NYRB II Tally Four Again, Defeat Tampa Bay

MONTCLAIR, N.J. (September 2, 2017) – New York Red Bulls II (10-11-5, 35 points) extended their unbeaten streak to five Saturday at MSU Soccer Park defeating the Tampa Bay Rowdies (10-8-7, 38 points), 4-2. Saturday marked the second-straight four goal performance at MSU for NYRB II after previously having none prior in 2017.

Andrew Tinari opened the scoring in the 17th minute with a screaming line drive that left Tampa Bay Rowdies keeper frozen as it hit the back of the net. The goal was Tinari’s second in as many games.

Tampa Bay equalized three minutes later off a set piece opportunity that saw Martin Paterson put it past NYRB II goalkeeper Ryan Meara.

Just before halftime, Noah Powder curled a free kick around the wall to give NYRB II a 2-1 lead. It was also Powder’s first of 2017.

Nine minutes into the second half, Junior Flemmings laid a perfect pass to the foot of Florian Valot who buried it home for an easy tap-in.

Hunter Gorskie pulled one back for Tampa Bay off another set piece miscommunication in the 77th minute but NYRB II responded right away with Junior Flemmings being the recipient of a Noah Powder pass that Junior calmly slotted past Pickens.

With the victory, NYRB II temporarily moves back into playoff positioning jumping into seventh place in the USL Eastern Conference.
