New York Red Bulls Fall in 2017 U.S. Open Cup Final

KANSAS CITY, KANSAS (September 20, 2017) – The New York Red Bulls fell to Sporting Kansas City in the 2017 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Final, 2-1, at Children’s Mercy Park.


Latif Blessing opened the scoring in the first half and Daniel Solloi doubled the lead in the 66th minute.


The Red Bulls pushed forward in search of goals and Bradley Wright-Phillips found the back of the net in stoppage time, but fell one goal short.

New York’s appearance in the U.S. Open Cup Final was their second in franchise history, and second runner-up finish.


New York defeated NYCFC, Philadelphia Union (PKs), New England Revolution and FC Cincinnati en route to reaching the title match.


New York faces a quick turnaround travelling to face Columbus Crew SC at MAPFRE Stadium on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.
