Decision Day Results to Determine Who the Red Bulls Play in the Knockout Round

The New York Red Bulls are locked into the No. 6 seed for the Audi 2017 MLS Cup Playoffs heading into Decision Day, presented by AT&T.


But the rest of the Eastern Conference, outside of Supporters' Shield winners Toronto FC, is up in the air in terms of seeding leading up to the league-wide 4 p.m. ET kickoff.


The Red Bulls can play any of New York City FC, Chicago Fire, Atlanta United or Columbus Crew based on the final results of the day.




Here's how the rest of the Eastern Conference playoff teams can clinch a first-round bye with a No. 2 finish in the Conference:


New York City FC will clinch a Knockout Round bye IF:

  • New York City FC win vs. Columbus Crew SC on Sunday

  • New York City FC tie vs. Columbus Crew SC on Sunday


AND

  • Chicago Fire tie or lose vs. Houston Dynamo on Sunday


AND

  • Atlanta United tie or lose vs. Toronto FC on Sunday


Chicago Fire will clinch a Knockout Round bye IF:

  • Chicago Fire win vs. Houston Dynamo on Sunday


AND

  • New York City FC tie or lose vs. Columbus Crew SC on Sunday


Atlanta United will clinch a Knockout Round bye IF:

  • Atlanta United win vs. Toronto FC on Sunday


AND

  • New York City FC tie or lose vs. Columbus Crew SC on Sunday


AND

  • Chicago Fire tie or lose vs. Houston Dynamo on Sunday


Columbus Crew SC will clinch a Knockout Round bye IF:

  • Columbus Crew SC win vs. New York City FC on Sunday


AND

  • Chicago Fire tie or lose vs. Houston Dynamo on Sunday

The Red Bulls will play the No. 3 seed in the Eastern Conference, away, on either Wednesday, October 25 or Thursday, October 26.
