Mathias Jørgensen Could Make 'Immediate Impact'

Mathias Jorgensen

Mathias Jørgensen is fully integrated into training with the New York Red Bulls and immediately is an option for the gameday roster.

Head Coach Chris Armas praised the young player's tenacity in training, paired with his speed and ability to score.

"We see much of what we saw when we were scouting him, that he has that ability," Armas said.

Armas said that Jørgensen could work as a second striker with Bradley Wright-Phillips.

"He does bring something different in terms of another guy, close to Brad, always up the field always looking to get behind," Armas said.

So far, Jørgensen is adapting well to New York's style of play.

"He's 18-years-old and he has a fearless nature," Armas said. "He fights and runs for the team; defends and understands how we play and, just in general, understands the game."

All that puts him in the mix for the Starting XI or 18-man gameday roster in Leg 2 of Club Santos Laguna in Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League Quarterfinals.

"It becomes an immediate option for us," Armas said. "I don't think it's too soon, he'll be considered for sure."
