  • New York Red Bulls II (6-1-1, 19 points) earned a 5-0 victory over Birmingham Legion FC on Wednesday night at MSU Soccer Park. Derrick Etienne Jr. got the game-winning goal, while Mathias Jørgensen scored twice and Sean Nealis got his first professional goal. USL’s leading scorer, Tom Barlow, got his eighth of the season to round out the scoring.
  • With 19 points, NYRB II sit atop the USL league-wide standings.
  • Etienne Jr. got the eventual game-winner in the 23rd winner, intercepting a pass in the Birmingham end and finishing his chance alone on goal.
  • 2019 MLS SuperDraft pick Nealis got his first professional goal in the second half, finishing a corner from Andy Ivan at the back post in the 55th minute.
  • Jørgensen, New York’s 18-year-old Danish striker, got the start at forward and cashed in twice at the second half. Jørgensen ran behind the defense and finished a pass from Etienne Jr. in the 57th minute. Jørgensen got his second in the 81st minute off of a rebound.
  • Barlow appeared as a second-half sub and got his eighth goal of the season off of a deflected shot in the 90th minute. He now leads the USL Championship in goals scored. Jared Stroud earned an assist on the play. Barlow’s eight goals lead NYRB II and all of USL.
  • Ryan Meara earned his second shutout of the season for NYRB II, making six saves.
