New York Red Bulls II defender Roy Boateng was selected No. 16 overall in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft by the New York Red Bulls. He is a two-time Big West Conference Defensive Player of the Year.

Q. What is your most memorable soccer moment?

BOATENG: I would say beating Stanford the spring after they had just become National Champions was pretty sweet. We were down a man most of the game, but we dug deep and won the game.


Q. How did it feel to be selected in the MLS SuperDraft?

BOATENG: It was an unforgettable experience to be selected. I was happy to acknowledge the people that helped me get to this point in my career. It has been a dream of mine to play professional since I was a child, so it was definitely a special day.


Q: What is your go to Karaoke song?

BOATENG: My go to karaoke song is A Change is Gonna Come  by Sam Cooke.


Q. What do you like to do when you’re not training or playing soccer?

BOATENG: I like to hike with friends, play the guitar and play basketball.


Q. Was there a player that you grew up admiring when you were younger?

BOATENG: When I was younger, I loved watching Ronaldinho.


Q. What has been the most difficult part of getting back to training?

BOATENG: The most difficult part of getting back is getting back to full fitness. There's no simulation for that it just comes back with playing and training.


Q. Who is your favorite club to support? 

BOATENG: My favorite club to support is Arsenal and it is a love-hate relationship.


Q. If you could pick any two teammates to be on your 3v3 squad, who would you pick?

BOATENG: I would have to pick Kyle Duncan and Marcus Epps, easy.


Q. What advice would you give to a younger player who is dealing with a significant injury?

BOATENG: Just stay focused on the long-term goal stay positive through the process and work hard. Just because you’re hurt doesn’t mean you can’t stay ready mentally, once you win that battle the rest will come.
