INSIDE THE 18: Patrick Seagrist, David Jensen Get First MLS Starting Nod in Home Opener

Recently signed to a first team contract, defender Patrick Seagrist will get the call on Opening Day for the New York Red Bulls vs. FC Cincinnati.


Seagrist was a four-year letter winner for Marquette and capped off his Golden Eagle career with a team-best seven assists his senior campaign. The Streamwood, Illinois, native earned All-BIG EAST First team honors in 2018 and 2019. He started 63 of the 65 matches he played in and recorded six goals and 16 assists as a defender.


Seagrist will join Tim Parker, Amro Tarek and Kyle Duncan along the back line, in front of David Jensen, who also makes his MLS debut.


Jensen began his senior career with FC Nordsjaelland, a Superligaen (Denmark first-division) squad, in March of 2009. He made his debut on September 24, 2011 off the bench and finished with 27 clean sheets in 85 appearances. The Denmark goalie has made 145 appearances for Utrecht with 33 shutouts across all competitions.


Aaron Long and Ryan Meara will both be held out due to precautionary reasons as they work back from minor knocks.


Captain Sean Davis will start in the midfield, with Cristian Cásseres Jr. 


Kaku, Florian Valot, Daniel Royer and Brian White round out the Starting XI for Head Coach Chris Armas.


This will be Valot’s first game back since March 16, 2019 vs. San Jose and after his second ACL surgery.


Available off the bench for New York will be Sean Nealis, Alex Muyl, Josh Sims, Kendall McIntosh, John Tolkin, Tom Barlow and Marc Rzatkowski.
