New York Red Bulls II Extend Loan of Costa Rican Defender Yostin Salinas

HARRISON, N.J. (February 10, 2023) – New York Red Bulls II have extended the loan of defender Yostin Salinas from Sporting Football Club through June of this year, the club announced today.

“We are pleased to extend Yostin’s loan with us and make him a part of the group for the upcoming MLS NEXT Pro season,” Sporting Director Denis Hamlett said. “He showed us what he was capable of last year and we look forward to see more of that in the future.”

Salinas, 24, was originally loaned to Red Bulls II on August 8, 2022, and made a total of 6 appearances, all starts, through the rest of the USL Championship Season. The defender has logged 527 minutes, starting with his club debut against Miami FC on September 9.

“Yostin was a great addition to the group last year and we are looking forward to seeing the impact he will have this season,” Head Coach Ibrahim Sekagya said. “The leadership that he brings on and off the pitch are very important to the squad that we are building.”

Before his time with Red Bulls II, Salinas has spent most of his career in the Costa Rican first division with Deportivo Saprissa and, his current club, Sporting Football Club. The Costa Rican has 123 career appearances in the league, tallying three goals and an assist in those matches.

The defender began his career with Limón F.C. in the Costa Rican second division, where he featured 29 times for the squad. 

Salinas has also appeared for his country, making three starts for the Costa Rican National Team. His made his international debut at age 20 back in November of 2018.
