Coaches of New York: Mohamed Ait Nouri

”I'm from Algiers, the capital of Algeria. Growing up, I naturally spent hours playing soccer in the streets as a goalie. The 1998 World Cup and Ronaldo Phenomeno were my inspirations to start playing for a small club in Algiers when I was 10 years old. Since then, my passion for soccer has never waned. I competed at a good level in Algeria, both professionally and semi-professionally, and I have always had a deep admiration for coaching. While my friends were engrossed in playing FIFA or PES, I was captivated by Football Manager. I would meticulously jot down the formations of different teams in my school notebooks, and I began my coaching career in Manhattan in 2018 with the FFA team. Later, I transitioned to the New York Red Bulls, and coaching has been my passion ever since.

Language was my first challenge, as I had never spoken English before moving to the US (Arabic was my first language and French my second) in 2017. I also had to adapt to the different soccer culture here. Embracing diverse schools of thought and soccer cultures from coaches around the world has helped me grow as a coach. Red Bull provided me with the opportunity to progress and challenge myself as a coach. They also instilled in me the confidence to believe in myself and pursue my goal and dream of coaching at a professional level.

My love for soccer is profound — I can't imagine my life without it. I've been passionate about the game since I was 8 years old. This passion drives me to give my all to the players and teams I coach.
