Escobar and Murillo make 23-Man Panama Roster for 2018 FIFA World Cup

New York Red Bulls defenders Michael Amir Murillo and Fidel Escobar were named to the final 23-man Panama roster for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, the Panamanian federation announced today.

Panama qualified for their first ever World Cup, finishing in third place in CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying.


They were paired in Group G along with Belgium, England and Tunisia.


Escobar, Murillo and Panama will open their tournament against Belgium on June 18 on 11 a.m. ET. Los Canaleros then face England on June 24 at 8 a.m. ET before rounding out the group against Tunisia on June 28 at 2 p.m. ET.


Panama played Northern Ireland to a scoreless draw last night in Los Canaleros Farewell Match at Estadio Rommel Fernandez in Panama City. New York Red Bulls defender Fidel Escobar started and played a full 90 minutes in the final match on Panamanian soil before the team heads to Russia. Fellow New York Red Bull Michael Amir Murillo was on the bench for Panama after playing 90 minutes in the Red Bulls’ draw with the Union on Saturday.
