Reigning eMLS Cup Champion Signs Contract Extension

HARRISON, N.J. (December 9, 2020) – The New York Red Bulls announced today that the reigning eMLS Cup Champion, George Adamou, has signed a contract extension to represent the New York Red Bulls in the 2021 eMLS season and other FIFA Global Series events in 2021.

Adamou, a Queens native, joined RBNY’s eMLS team last December after breaking onto the scene and climbing the FIFA Global Series rankings to be the top-ranked American on PlayStation for FIFA 20.

Adamou continued his rise throughout 2020, making it to the final of eMLS League Series One before lifting the eMLS Cup in June, beating cross-town rival NYCFC’s eMLS Player, Chris Holly, in the final.

“We are very excited to bring George back for another year,” said New York Red Bulls Sr. Director of Content and Communications Jayne Bussman-Wise. “We recognized George’s talent and ambition immediately. We set high goals from the start and he exceeded our expectations winning eMLS Cup in his rookie campaign. We’re all looking forward to seeing what George can accomplish this year.”

Adamou is a Business Management major at Adelphi University. He played soccer growing up in Queens, serving as a captain for Benjamin N Cardozo High School’s team and also playing club soccer for Bayside AV juniors. He committed to play at Adelphi University before injury, which ultimately led to him shifting focus to playing FIFA at a high level.

“I’m very pleased to re-sign with the New York Red Bulls,” said Adamou. “My rookie year was just a glimpse of what I’m capable of and I’m thankful to the club and all of the fans for their support. I’m looking forward to another great season filled with success.”

Details on the 2021 eMLS season will be announced in the near future.
