The New York Red Bulls acquired forward/midfielder Carlos Rivas, along with defender Tommy Redding, from Orlando City SC on January 3, 2018 in exchange for midfielder Sacha Kljestan.
Rivas, 23, hails from Jamundi, Valle, Colombia and has played in MLS for three seasons after coming in as one of the team’s first Designated Players when Orlando entered the league in 2015.
Through 42 starts and 78 total appearances for Orlando, Rivas has scored eight goals (5 in 2017), along with 13 assists, over 4,131 minutes played.
Before Orlando, Rivas had 10 appearances for Once Caldas in CategorÃa Primera A before transferring to Deportivo Cali in 2013, where he went on to score 18 goals in 47 games across all competitions.
With Deportivo, he recorded seven goals and two assists in 20 league appearances as a 19-year-old, and added three goals between the Copa Sudamericana and Copa Libertadores.
He has appeared at youth international levels for Colombia.
