On February 2, the New York Red Bulls added 18-year-old Cristian Cásseres, Jr. to the roster ahead of the 2018 MLS season.
Cásseres, Jr. joins the club from Deportivo La Guaira, a first division Venezuelan side based in his hometown of Caracas, after two years with the club.
He began his career at youth levels with Atlético Venezuela prior to making the switch to Deportivo La Guaira, also at a youth level, before signing with the first team.
Cásseres, Jr. has earned multiple youth national team call ups, representing Venezuela at both the U-17 and U-20 levels.
Soccer talent runs in the Cásseres family as well.
The midfielder’s father, Cristian Cásseres, Sr., enjoyed a successful professional soccer career, earning more than 25 caps with the Venezuela national team.
The father and son duo were both members of the Atlético Venezuela organization at the same time in 2012 – Cásseres, Sr. on the first team, while Cásseres, Jr. played for the U-14 side.
