INSIDE THE 18: Heavy Squad Rotation for Midweek Matchup

Head Coach Chris Armas is employing heavy squad rotation for their midweek matchup against the Houston Dynamo.


Brian White, Andreas Ivan and Cristian Casseres, Jr., will each make their first MLS starts of their career, with White starting at forward and Ivan and Casseres, Jr., in the midfield.


White became the eighth player from New York Red Bulls II to ink a first team contract on August 4. New York’s first-round pick (16th overall) in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft out of Duke University, signed with NYRB II ahead of the 2018 season.


Sean Davis, Alex Muyl and Tyler Adams will round out the midfield.


Wednesday’s match will be the fourth game in 12 days for New York. During this current five games in 15-day stretch, the Red Bulls are unbeaten with a 1-0-2 mark. New York opened up the stretch with back-to-back road draws against Vancouver (2-2) and NYCFC (1-1) before coming home and defeating D.C. United, 1-0.


Panamanian pairing Fidel Escobar and Michael Amir Murillo will work on defense, alongside Tim Parker and Connor Lade.


Luis Robles will captain the team and start in goal.


New York has been able to defend Red Bull Arena against Houston and eight other MLS teams without giving away all three points. Along with Houston, New York has not lost at Red Bull Arena to Atlanta, Colorado, Dallas, LAFC, Minnesota, Montreal, New England, San Jose.


Ryan Meara is available off the bench, with Bradley Wright-Phillips, Aaron Long, Kemar Lawrence, Marc Rzatkowski, Daniel Royer and Kaku ready to sub in.


Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. ET with coverage on MSG, MSG GO and New York Red Bulls Radio in English and Spanish on TuneIn.


New York Red Bulls Radio goes live at 7 p.m. ET with Honda Countdown to Kickoff, hosted by Matt Harmon. Ernesto Motta will carry the Spanish play-by-play broadcast, beginning at 8 p.m.
