INSIDE THE 18: Jesse Marsch Rolls Out Lineup for New York Derby

Jesse Marsch

Head Coach Jesse Marsch will play a repeat lineup for the first time this season in the first edition of the New York Derby, vs. New York City FC. Rolling with the same Starting XI that beat the Montreal Impact, 3-1, at Red Bull Arena in mid-April, Marsch will see the same players take the pitch for the starting whistle.

Holding down the defensive side of the ball, Tyler Adams, Sean Davis, Kemar Lawrence, Aaron Long, Michael Amir Murillo and Tim Parker will look to keep NYCFC off the board.

Since Red Bull Arena opened in 2010, the Red Bulls have the best home record in MLS, with the most home wins and points.

Luis Robles will captain the side and start in goal.

Of Robles’s 51 career clean sheets, he has recorded 35 of them at Red Bull Arena. He has a career 1.02 goals-against average at home.

Bradley Wright-Phillips will lead the attack, supported by Kaku, Daniel Royer and Florian Valot.

At 33-years old, Bradley Wright-Phillips seems to be getting better with age as he shifts from just a goal scorer to a dual threat. Wright-Phillips recorded his first career multi-assist league match against the Galaxy. The English striker has recorded five goals and four assists through seven league matches, which puts him tied for third in goals and tied for fourth in assists, respectively, in MLS. Wright-Phillips is just three assists shy of tying his 2015 career-best mark of seven.

Last week, vs. Los Angeles Galaxy, Royer became the 10th different Red Bull to score in league play and 13th across all competitions. New York’s 13 different scorers across all competitions surpass last season’s total of 12.

New York will have Vincent Bezecourt, Fidel Escobar, Derrick Etienne, Jr., Ben Mines, Alex Muyl and Hassan Ndam on the bench. Ryan Meara will serve as the backup keeper.

Aurelien Collin and Marc Rzatkowski are both out of the matchday roster due to recent knocks.

Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m. ET with coverage on ESPN, ESPN Deportes, WatchESPN and New York Red Bulls Radio in English and Spanish on TuneIn.

New York Red Bulls Radio goes live at 1 p.m. ET with triHonda Countdown to Kickoff, hosted by Matt Harmon and Steve Jolley. Ernesto Motta will have the Spanish play-by-play call for the New York Red Bulls Radio and will be live at 1:45 p.m.
