As the U.S. Men’s National Team nears the conclusion of World Cup Qualifying, Red Bulls head coach Jesse Marsch looked ahead to the USMNT’s annual January camp.
When asked if he believes Tyler Adams deserves a senior team call up this winter, Marsch said the 18-year-old Homegrown Player has earned it.
“January camp for sure for me,” Marsch said. “I don’t think there’s any way he can be left out of January camp. The question is in the bigger picture, how big of bites can you give him at this?”
Adams has developed a plethora of youth international experience, participating in both the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup and 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
He also received recognition in MLS’ 2017 edition of 24 Under 24, a series which ranks the league’s top talents under the age of 24.
“I think the quicker he gets in with the full team the better – for him and the full team,” Marsch said. “He’s certainly a special player and a special person and we’ve seen so much growth from him.”
A USL champion with New York Red Bulls II and two-time MLS Homegrown Game selection, Adams has made the most of his first full MLS season with the Red Bulls, playing 21 games, including 20 starts, and tallying two goals and two assists.
Adams has also been named to the MLS Team of the Week on three occasions this year.
“I mean now it’s just every game he gets better and better,” Marsch said. “He [is] a very important piece to our team and we’re really excited to see his development.”
