New York fell in its last match to Sacramento Republic FC, 3-1, on Saturday, July 31 at Heart Health Park. Midfielder Jeremy Rafanello scored his fourth goal of the season, moving him into a tie with forward Omar Sowe for the team lead. Midfielder Kyle Zajec recorded his first assist of the season on the goal.
The match against Tampa Bay marks the first of four-straight at home for New York, including three in a span of eight days.
Tampa Bay defeated New York 1-0 on Wednesday, June 2 in the first meeting between the two sides in 2021. They will play twice in Tampa Bay later this season to round out the season series.
New York currently sits in seventh place of the Atlantic Division, while Tampa Bay ranks second. They are coming off a 2-0 loss to Charlotte Independence on Saturday, July 31.
Following Friday’s match, New York will host Charlotte on Tuesday, August 10. Kickoff from MSU Soccer Park is set for 7 p.m. ET.
