Match Preview: NYRB II Starts Three-Match Road Trip on Wednesday Night at Charlotte

HARRISON, N.J. (July 5, 2021) – New York Red Bulls II (2-6-3, 9 points) starts a three-match road trip on Wednesday night, beginning with the Charlotte Independence (5-4-0, 15 points). Kickoff between New York and Charlotte is set for 7 p.m. ET. Coverage is available on ESPN+.

This will be the 12th all-time USL Championship regular season meeting between New York and Charlotte with New York holding the advantage in the series with a mark of 5-3-3. They most recently defeated Charlotte on June 16, 3-1. Forward Jeremy Rafanello recorded a brace and an assist in the victory.

New York Red Bulls II are coming off a 1-1 draw against Miami FC on Friday, July 2. Forward Jake Lacava scored his club-leading third goal of the season. Midfielder Kyle Zajec made his first appearance since suffering a left foot fracture on July 26, 2020, against Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC.  

New York currently sits in seventh place of the Atlantic Division, while Charlotte sits in third place. They are coming off a 1-0 loss to the Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC on Saturday, July 3.  

Following Wednesday’s match, New York will continue their road trip on Saturday, July 10, visiting Hartford Athletic, with kickoff set for 7 p.m. ET.
