Match Preview: NYRB II Travels to Face League-Leading Tampa Bay Rowdies

HARRISON, N.J. (September 10, 2021) – New York Red Bulls II (4-13-4, 16 points) travels to face the Tampa Bay Rowdies (15-6-1, 46 points) on Saturday, September 11 at Al Lang Stadium. Kickoff between New York and Tampa Bay is set for 7:30 p.m. ET. Coverage is available on ESPN+.

New York will look to build momentum following its 2-0 victory against Hartford Athletic on Saturday, September 4. The win marked the first clean sheet of the season for New York, who held Hartford to zero shots on goal. Midfielder Jake LaCava scored his fifth goal of the season off a pass from forward Omar Sowe, and forward Serge Ngoma scored his second career goal in second half stoppage time.

The match will mark the third meeting of the season between New York and Tampa Bay, with the Rowdies leading the series 2-0-0. Both prior matches were decided by one goal, with the most recent meeting being a 2-1 Tampa Bay victory on Friday, August 6. The two clubs will meet again in St. Petersburg in October to close out the season series.

Tampa Bay has not allowed a goal in 621 minutes, with Jake LaCava’s strike on August 6 being the last one that they have conceded. 

New York currently sits in seventh place of the Atlantic Division, while Tampa Bay ranks first while also leading the USL Championship in points. They are coming off a 1-0 victory against the Charleston Battery on Tuesday, September 7.

Following Saturday’s match, New York will return home to play twice next week at MSU Soccer Park. The first match will be on Wednesday, September 15, as it hosts San Antonio FC. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m., with coverage available on ESPN+.
