The New York Red Bulls became the latest MLS team to reach the 2018 CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals, after beating Honduran side CD Olimpia 2-0 at Red Bull Arena on Thursday to win the series 3-1 on aggregate.
The first half was entertaining on both ends, with both sides eager to race upfield and put numbers into the final third, but the final product was lacking.
Bradley Wright-Phillips found the breakthrough in the 54th minute, making a solo run with the ball into the box and slotting it past Olimpia goalkeeper Donis Escober.
Moments later, the Red Bulls were fortunate as Diego Reyes missed a wide-open net for Olimpia. 10 minutes after the opening goal, Sean Davis added an insurance tally, as his deflected strike beat Escober to make it 2-0 on the night.
