Match Recap: NYRB II and San Diego Loyal SC Battle to 2-2 Draw at Red Bull Arena

HARRISON, NJ (June 2, 2022) – New York Red Bulls II (1-10-2, 5 points) and San Diego Loyal SC (6-3-4, 22 points) played to a 2-2 draw on Thursday, June 2, at Red Bull Arena.

New York opened the scoring in the 16th minute, as Jonathan Filipe slipped a pass through a defender to Caden Clark, who took a few steps with the ball and ripped a shot into the net.

Red Bulls II doubled their advantage in the 24th minute. Jeremy Rafanello drew multiple defenders towards him at the far edge of the box and played a ball to Sam Williams who sent in a shot.

San Diego scored in the 50th minute, as halftime substitute Thomas Amang headed in the ball after it was headed to him by Alejandro Guido. The visitors evened the score in the 88th minute, as Amang capitalized off a pass from Nick Moon that took a slight deflection.

Clark’s goal was his first of the season and the fourth of his Red Bulls II career. He also made his first appearance and start of the season. Filipe’s assist was the first of his professional career.

Williams scored his first professional goal, marking the second Red Bulls Academy player to score in a match this season (Illia Tyrkus, May 14). Rafanello’s assist was his first of the season and the seventh of his professional career.

AJ Marcucci tallied five saves in the contest, surpassing 100 for his professional career. He became the second player to record triple digit saves with Red Bulls II (Evan Louro, 206).

Following the match, New York will travel to face Loudoun United FC on Wednesday, June 8. Kickoff at Segra Field is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET with coverage on ESPN+.
