Match Recap: NYRB II, Loudoun United FC Draw After High-Scoring Clash

MONTCLAIR, N.J. (September 30, 2021) – New York Red Bulls II (5-16-6, 21 points) wrapped up the month of September with a 3-3 draw against Loudoun United FC (3-18-2, 12 points) on Thursday night at MSU Soccer Park.

Loudoun jumped out to an early advantage in the 4th minute when forward Ted Ku-Dipietro finished a low cross in the box from midfielder Gaoussou Samake. The visitors doubled their lead in the 20th minute with a goal from forward Jackson Hopkins.

In the 37th minute, forward Omar Sowe was taken down in the box by Loudoun’s goalkeeper and was awarded a penalty kick. He converted it for his team-leading 7th goal of the season to bring New York within one at the half.

Early in the second half, midfielder Kyle Zajec whipped in a curling cross which found the head of forward Luther Archimede, who headed it into the net to even the match at two. A few minutes later, Samake placed a ball in the bottom right corner of the New York net to give Loudoun a 3-2 advantage. The following minute New York scored again, when forward Mathias Jørgensen finished off a feed from Archimede.

Archimede scored his first professional goal and recorded his first professional assist in his 9th match of the season. The goal for Jørgensen was his second of 2021 and 13th of his USL Championship career.

New York, unbeaten in its last three, will travel to face Charlotte Independence on Saturday, October 9. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET with coverage on ESPN+.
