An own goal by Andrés Reyes and a late finisher were the difference in the New York Red Bulls 2-0 loss to CF Montréal on Saturday night.

"After a game like that, you're a little bit speechless," Head Coach Gerhard Struber said. "We are frustrated that we have, in every game, enough chances to score and win games -- but in the end, we cannot realize the scoring moments that we want. This is very disappointing for every single player and for me, my coaching team, makes it very tough."

North of the border, Reyes deflected a ball while working to clear it, it trickled past Carlos Coronel and into the side netting. Montréal finished out the match with a second goal in stoppage time, when Mathieu Choinière collected a rebound and found the back of the net.

Montréal played with 10 men for the final 25 minutes of the match, but the Red Bulls could not find an equalizer, despite 15 shots -- with four on target.

"We had momentum, good chances how we come in possession in the last third," Struber said. "We created the moments that we want but in the end, the output at the moment is not enough and this is it's not a super cool feeling at the moment."

Wiki Carmona made his first start of the season and his first MLS start since October 30, 2021, against CF Montreal.

"I feel like the responsibility is more so on our side, we're the guys on the field and we have to get the job done," Captain Sean Nealis said. "Obviously, big disappointment. Tonight, especially going up a man for 30 minutes or 20 plus minutes and obviously we just didn't get the job done and we have to improve and you know, it's not good enough on our part, on the players part."

Kyle Duncan picked up his fifth yellow card of the season and will be suspended for New York’s next match.

"There's pressure every game to perform and obviously we didn't do it today," Nealis said. "There's a lot of disappointment. There's a lot of frustration. We need to be better. We have to look ourselves in the mirror, especially the players. You know, we didn't go out and perform to the best of our ability and it showed today with a result that didn’t go our way."

New York remains with just one win on the season and travel to Chicago to take on the Fire on Saturday, April 29 at 8:30 PM ET.
