April 1, 2000 - Metros Down D.C. United in 2000 Home Opener

The MetroStars' Colombian strikers generated three goals as the Metros outlasted D.C. United 3-2 in their home opener Saturday night at Giants Stadium. Adolfo "El Tren" Valencia and Alex Comas each had a goal and an assist as the MetroStars downed the defending MLS champions for the first time since May of 1998.
A crowd of 27,322 fans enjoyed the MetroStars home opener, which featured the home debut of Lothar Matthaus. Matthaus played in a defensive midfield role in a revamped Metros lineup.
