HARRISON, N.J. (June 10, 2022) – New York Red Bulls II have sent goalkeeper Derrek Chan to USL League One club Charlotte Independence on a short-term loan, pending league and federation approval, the club announced today.

The loan will end on Sunday, June 12, following Charlotte’s match on Saturday, June 11, against the Richmond Kickers.

Chan, 23, is in his first professional season after signing with Red Bulls II following his collegiate career at UC Davis.

The Cowan Heights, California, native has appeared in two matches this season, started one, and tallied 10 saves. The seven in his professional debut marked a club record, surpassing Kyle Reynish’s six during the 2015 season.

He was previously loaned to Rochester New York FC for their U.S. Open Cup match on Wednesday, May 11, against New York City FC.
