The RDS Spring Invitational celebrated its eighth annual edition this year, taking place at the Red Bulls Training Facility in Whippany, NJ on the weekend of April 25th and 26th. The tournament once again brought together the U10 and U11 age groups for an invite-only competition that remains true to its mission—a developmental event with no registration fees, focused on growth, teamwork, and the love of the game.
Saturday opened with cold rain and brisk winds, testing the resolve of the U11 players, who showed remarkable determination, skill, and spirit in tough conditions. By contrast, Sunday delivered the best of spring—clear skies and warm sunshine—setting the perfect stage for the U10 teams to showcase their technical quality and creativity on the ball.
Twenty teams representing clubs from across the region and beyond, including Red Bull Academy squads, competed with integrity and sportsmanship throughout the weekend. As in past years, no official standings or scores were kept, emphasizing player development over results and reinforcing the Invitational’s commitment to nurturing young talent in a positive environment.
Following each match, coaches selected two standout players from the opposing team—those who impressed through exceptional effort, ability, or attitude—earning points toward the MVP honors for their club. This year’s RDS Invitational MVPs will be recognized on May 16th at Sports Illustrated Stadium, during the Hudson River Derby between Red Bull New York and NYCFC—a fitting showcase for the area’s next generation of talent.
The Red Bull New York RDS and Academy extend sincere thanks to all participating clubs, players, and families whose enthusiasm and support continue to make the RDS Spring Invitational a highlight of the youth soccer calendar.
