Red Bull New York has acquired defender Devin Padelford via loan from Minnesota United FC in exchange for the discovery priority on Cherrion Valerius, the club announced today. Padelford will be on loan with the Red Bulls through the end of the 2026 MLS season. This move was processed prior to the closing of the Secondary Transfer Window.
“Devin is a player who brings a combination of physicality, versatility, and a strong mentality to our group,” said Head of Sport Julian de Guzman. “We are excited to add him to our roster and look forward to seeing him contribute to the team.”
Padelford, 23, has been with Minnesota United FC for the last three seasons, where he has made 48 career MLS appearances and has recorded two goals and one assist. This season, Padelford has made 16 MLS appearances and has recorded two goal contributions. In 2024, Padelford made 24 MLS appearances and helped Minnesota clinch a playoff berth and reach the MLS Conference Semifinals. During the 2025 season, he went on loan to St. Louis City SC, where he made 10 appearances.
The Maplewood, Minnesota native joined Minnesota United Academy in 2021, where he made 13 appearances in MLS NEXT recording two goals and eight assists. In 2022, Padelford signed his first professional contract with Minnesota United and spent the season with Minnesota United 2 in MLS NEXT Pro, and in his time in MLS NEXT Pro, he has made 48 career appearances.
“We are really looking forward to working with Devin and adding him to our group,” said Head Coach Michael Bradley. “He has good physical qualities, he’s competitive, and he has shown that he plays with real intensity. We are excited for him to get started and begin integrating him with the team.”
Prior to playing professionally, Padelford played for Woodbury High School, where he was named All-State and Conference Player of the Year in 2021. He led Woodbury to two state championships in 2019 and 2021.
