Red Bull New York Acquires Defender Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty from CF Montréal in Exchange for Midfielder Wiki Carmona

Red Bull New York have acquired defender Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty from CF Montréal in exchange for midfielder Wiki Carmona, the club announced today. Montréal will retain a portion of Marshall-Rutty’s salary for the 2026 season. New York will retain a percentage of sell-on rights for Carmona.

“We are very pleased to add Jahkeele to our roster and welcome him to the club,” said Head of Sport Julian de Guzman. “He is an exciting young player that brings a strong mentality and a willingness to work, and we believe this is a great spot for him to continue developing and taking the next step in his career.”

Marshall-Rutty, 21, joins New York with six seasons of MLS experience. Last season, he made six appearances for CF Montréal before going on loan to Charlotte FC, where he made 29 appearances across all competitions and tallied four assists. Marshall-Rutty made the move to CF Montréal in August of 2024, he made 10 appearances for them during that season.

Prior to Montréal, Marshall-Rutty spent four-and-a-half seasons with Toronto FC. He signed his first professional contract with Toronto in January of 2020 and became the youngest player to sign a first-team contract for the club at 15 years old. The defender made his MLS debut on October 24, 2020, and became the youngest player to appear in a match for the club. In his time with Toronto, he made 83 career appearances and recorded one goal and 10 assists.

The Brampton, Ontario native has made one career appearance for the Canada Senior National Team. He made his debut for Canada on January 17, 2026, coming on as a substitute in a 1-0 win over Guatemala. Marshall-Rutty was called up to his first senior national team camp in September.

Carmona, 22, has been with New York since the beginning of the 2021 MLS season. He made 102 MLS appearances for the Red Bulls, where he recorded five goals and seven assists. He helped RBNY clinch their first ever MLS Eastern Conference Championship in 2024, in the season, he made 24 MLS appearances and tallied three goals and three assists.

During his time with the Red Bulls, Carmona featured for the Venezuela National Team at both the senior and youth levels. The Guarico, Venezuela native made his senior national team debut on October 9, 2025 in an international friendly against Argentina. Carmona also earned a number of call-ups to the youth national teams, including to Venezuela’s U-23 Olympic qualifying team in October of 2023.
