Red Bull New York have transferred midfielder Dennis Gjengaar to Norwegian Eliteserien side Vålerenga, the club announced today.
“We want to thank Dennis for his professionalism and commitment during his time with our club,” said Head of Sport Julian de Guzman. “He has been a fantastic person on and off the pitch, and we wish him continued success in this next chapter of his career, both professionally and personally.”
Gjengaar, 22, has been with the Red Bulls for three seasons after joining on February 16, 2024. He made 52 appearances across all competitions for the club, where he tallied six goal contributions. The midfielder scored his first career MLS goal against Toronto FC on June 22, 2024. Meanwhile, he recorded his first career MLS assist against FC Cincinnati on July 20, 2024.
This season, Gjengaar featured in 18 matches for Red Bull New York II in MLS NEXT Pro, accumulating five goals and eight assists. On August 23, the midfielder recorded his first career MLS NEXT Pro brace in a 5-1 home victory against Toronto FC II.
Prior to his arrival in New York, the Norwegian midfielder spent two seasons with Odds BK in Eliteserien, where he made 39 appearances and recorded nine goal contributions. Before joining the first team, Gjengaar appeared in 51 matches for Odds BK II.
At the international level, Gjengaar featured for Norway’s youth national teams, which included appearances at the U-15, U-17, U-18, U-19, U-20 and U-21 level. As a member of the Red Bulls, he made his debut for the U-21’s on June 6, 2025, in a 4-0 win over Wales U-21.
