Red Bull New York have announced today that the club has waived and exercised a buyout of the Salary Budget Charge for defender Raheem Edwards.
“We want to thank Raheem for his contributions to the club over the last year,” said Head of Sport Julian de Guzman. “We wish him nothing but success in the next chapter of his career.”
Edwards, 30, spent last season with New York, where he made 24 MLS appearances and tallied two assists. The defender has made 201 career MLS appearances in his 11-year professional career and in that timespan, he has recorded eight goals and 30 assists. Edwards has had stints with CF Montreal, LA Galaxy, LAFC, Minnesota United FC, and Chicago Fire FC. He started his professional career with Toronto FC, where he made 22 MLS appearances and he won the 2016-17 MLS Cup and the 2016-17 Supporters Sheild with the club.
The Toronto, Ontario native has made five career appearances, where he made four starts. Edwards made his debut on June 14, 2017, in an international friendly against Curacao. He started and played 53 minutes in the match.
