Red Bulls Academy 2023 Fall Season Preview: Academy Director, Sean McCafferty

McCafferty

A message from Academy Director, Sean McCafferty:

As we enter into the 2023/2024 season there is a sense of both excitement and expectation. The success that we experienced during the 2022/2023 season was a testament to the commitment of meeting the required standards each and every day from the players and staff. We believe it is imperative to celebrate success given the work that everyone puts into the process but what I’m extremely proud of as the Academy Director is the culture that has been created of moving forward quickly and embracing the challenge of improving in all aspects both on and off the pitch for the upcoming season.

We have made some changes to our staffing structure on the technical side going into the 2023/2024 season, which we believe will set us up for success both in the short and long term. Colby Cunha and Justin Duque have been added to the U12 Academy coaching staff and we are pleased to welcome London Woodberry as the new U14 Academy Head Coach. We are also excited to announce Chris Harmon as the new U17 Academy Head Coach and Jonathan Rhodes has been named as our new Head of Player Development and Professional Pathway which is an innovative and extremely important role as we commit to accelerating the development of our top prospects and supporting those players as the transition from the Academy to the professional ranks here at New York Red Bulls.

I’d also like to take this opportunity to congratulate the four Academy players who have signed Professional contracts in 2023, Davi Alexandre, Aidan Stokes, Julian Hall, and Tanner Rosborough. Ensuring we are providing high potential talent to our professional teams is the most important role we have at the Academy level and we are proud of the players who have taken the next step and look forward to the players who will follow in their footsteps in the coming years.

The future is bright here at New York Red Bulls and we are just getting started.
