As a rematch of last year’s Eastern Conference Semifinals awaits in Toronto Sunday, Red Bulls goalkeeper Luis Robles chided caution against a reeling Toronto side as New York looks to continue their good run of form in league play, only losing once in their past nine matches.
“I can’t speak to what’s going on with Toronto,” Robles said. “But I do know when you look at their roster, they have a dangerous team and when you consider history of games past, the way it ended last year, regardless of where they’re at in the standings or their current state, we just feel like we’re going to get the best Toronto FC that we can possibly get and that’s what we’re expecting this weekend.”
Sean Davis echoed that sentiment when talking about Toronto being on the outside looking in when it comes to the playoff picture.
“We know they’re going to throw everything they possibly have at us,” Davis said. “They’re a very good team despite their record, and so we’re ready for that.”
Attention to detail and a laser focus on limiting mistakes will be the difference Sunday away against the defending champions.
“I think one things for sure, they’re always good at home,” Aaron Long said. “They’re always going to be dangerous, they got a lot of good players and a lot of game changes so they can get a goal at any time. We’ve got to be focused going into it and we can’t be lazy because it’s a team that can hurt us if we’re not on our game.”
