2014 Save of the Week: Week 28
Luis Robles just lost out to Joe Bendik in last week’s MLS Save of the Week voting, but he has another shot.
The New York Red Bulls ‘keeper is up for consideration again as one of the nominees for Week 28, selected for his stellar back-to-back save to deny Marco Pappa and Clint Dempsey in their 4-1 win over the Seattle Sounders.
Robles on the save:
Yea, just thinking about (Marco) Pappa’s shot, I know (Jamison) Olave has no idea where the ball’s going so he’s doing everything he can to get his body in front of it and he did a great job, he had a great game. I think it would have been an easy save, but obviously the deflection changed everything and I did everything I could to just get my body behind it, not even thinking where the ball would go, but the ball went high enough that I could get up and just react to Clint (Dempsey’s) header and fortunately for me he kept it high instead of low, it would have been really difficult to get it low, but I know that it came in a key moment in the game and they easily could have gotten back into it with that goal, so as long as everyone continues to do what they’re doing, we have everything that we need going into the last five games to be successful.
