BRADENTON, Fla. - Wikelman Carmona is among the new faces in the New York Red Bulls squad in Florida. The Venezuelan midfielder, alongside goalkeeper Carlos Coronel and midfielder Youba Diarra, are now taking part in team training as Head Coach Gerhard Struber prepares his side for the upcoming 2021 season.
“I think these days have been top level, I think I have teammates with a high level of play,” said Carmona. “The rhythm of play is very different, and my idea is to adapt and give all my talent to my team.”
As he gets to meet the coaching staff and his new teammates, Carmona has been close to his compatriot Cristian Cásseres Jr., who will guide him as he learns to move around his new home.
“To have Cristian here with the team, makes everything easier for me,” said Carmona. “To be able to speak with him since he’s had a lot of time here, he knows the movements, the training sessions. He’ll correct me, help me and guide me during training sessions and games.”
For now, Carmona looks forward to enjoying the training sessions with RBNY and working to showcase his talent for the good of the team.
“It makes me feel proud and very happy [to finally be in the United States with the team],” he said. “As I train here, my idea and expectations are to improve as a player and give all my talent to the team, so we can give great performances here.”
