RED BULLS FACE UNION IN OPEN CUP: The New York Red Bulls, who are off to their best-ever start in the club’s 14-year history, will aim to continue their winning ways against new Eastern Conference rival, the Philadelphia Union, when the two teams meet up for the second time in four days in a U.S. Open Cup Preliminary Round Match on Tuesday, April 27 at 8:00 PM. Tickets are available for $15 apiece in the stadium’s 100-Level by calling 1.877.RBSOCCER or logging onto www.newyorkredbulls.com.

New York currently sits in first place in the Eastern Conference with 12 points and a 4-1-0 record. The 12 points through five games marks the best beginning for the team since 2007, when the Red Bulls went 3-0-2, earning 11 points. On Saturday, the Red Bulls defeated the Union, 2-1, at Red Bull Arena in their first-ever matchup. Salou Ibrahim scored his first MLS goal in the 50th minute, rising above Union keeper Chris Seitz to head a Jeremy Hall cross into the back of the net.  Less than 10 minutes later, Philadelphia forward Alejandro Moreno found space on the right touchline and played a ball across the face of goal to Sebastien Le Toux, who tapped it home for the tying goal.  But in the 67th minute, Union defender Michael Orozco handled the ball in the box to set up a penalty kick for the Red Bulls.  Captain Juan Pablo Angel converted the spot kick to earn the Red Bulls a 2-1 win.

New York won a coin toss to earn the right to host the rematch.  Should the Red Bulls advance, they will host the New England Revolution at Red Bull Arena in the next round on May 12 at 8:00 PM ET. Ticket information will be released for that match at a later date if the Red Bulls advance.

The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup is an annual national competition that is open to all amateur and professional soccer teams that are affiliated with U.S. Soccer. It is the oldest tournament in the U.S., beginning in 1914 when Brooklyn Field Club took home the very first title. MLS teams were first included in the tournament in the inaugural 1996 season. The team’s best finish in the competition came in 2003 with New York losing, 1-0, to the Chicago Fire on Oct. 15 at Giants Stadium.  New York dispatched three league opponents on its way to the final with a combined score of nine goals after posting a 4-0 shutout over the Mid Michigan Bucks of the PDL.

New York has fared slightly better against non-league opponents, with a record of 7-6 compared to 7-7 against other Major League Soccer teams.  In competition openers, New York has gone 1-1 against MLS sides, beating the San Jose Earthquakes last year in the Red Bulls’ 2-1 victory on April 29.  The Red Bulls were eliminated from the tournament when they lost to D.C. United, 5-3, on May 20 at RFK Stadium. New York has reached the quarterfinals six of the seven times it has progressed past its opening match.

New York faces its Atlantic Cup rival in regular season action for the 53rd time. D.C. is looking for its first points of the season, as it has started off 2010 with a 0-4-0 record. United, which did not have a game last weekend, most recently fell to the Chicago Fire, 2-0, at RFK Stadium with midfielder Marco Pappa and forward Brian McBride scoring in the last 10 minutes of the game. United midfielder Santino Quaranta and forward Jaime Moreno, who has recorded 24 goals and 18 assists in 39 appearances against New York, have a goal apiece this season. Like New York, D.C. is also playing in a U.S. Open Cup Preliminary Round match on Wednesday, April 28 at RFK Stadium.

The Red Bulls are 17-29-6 all-time against D.C. United in regular season play. Last year, the Red Bulls dropped both games to D.C. On April 26, despite getting goals from Juan Pablo Angel and Dane Richards, United received two late strikes from Luciano Emilio and Chris Pontius to earn a come-from-behind 3-2 victory at Giants Stadium. RED BULLS TEAM UP WITH NYPD FOR PERU TRIP: In the framework of the 'Soccer for children - Breaking Borders' program implemented by the New York Red Bulls in collaboration with the Police Department of New York City, a delegation from both entities will travel to Lima, Peru in the coming days in order to perform an annual soccer clinic and lead to economically disadvantaged children from different schools. The delegation will provide 150 soccer balls and sports clothing for over 1500 children. This grant will attempt to send, through the delegation of goodwill, a positive message to reflect that by way of sport, one can get a better life and that nothing is impossible with the joint efforts of both countries.

New York Red Bulls Senior Director of Communications and Hispanic Affairs Ernesto Motta, who will represent the Red Bulls in the delegation, said: "I am very excited about this project which began some time ago together with other leaders of football in the city of New York.  This program has had great success in the past as we have travelled to countries like Ecuador and Colombia, which we visited last year. Our goal is to visit countries in South and Central America, conduct soccer clinics for needy children and hope that our modest donation may bring a positive message and is something very positive in their lives.”

Avianca's participation has been essential for the transport of the donations that have been made not only in Colombia, but in Peru this year. In selflessness and with great spirit of collaboration, its executives have always answered the call and have become mainstays of this campaign, which is expected to repeat year after year with the same success.

"After hearing about the program, created by the New York Red Bulls with the collaboration of the New York Police Department, Avianca joined this program, supporting their visit to Colombia, more specifically the ‘coffee belt’. We now continue with the journey that this group takes in Peru, and in conjunction with the organizers, we are finalizing details for the visit to the city of Cartagena, Colombia in 2011.  Worthy campaigns are ones that should be supported unreservedly and that's why we joined in, providing Avianca luggage transport and logistics group connections when required,” said Jaime Londoño, Airport Director Avianca Bogota.

This trip will take place from May 18 through May 26, visiting the Peruvian capital of Lima and its surroundings. The delegation will have the opportunity to visit schools and orphanages in poor to implement the grants.

This major event also has the support of the Embassy of the United States of America in Lima, Peru, which has designated the locations most in need.

The soccer team of the Police of the City of New York will play several friendly matches to promote closer ties with their counterparts in Peru, and have received the idea with great enthusiasm, working hard to ensure that this campaign is successful.

"Once again we are excited to be part of this delegation and sharing with the Red Bulls this new experience to deliver a major donation. With great pride on behalf of our Police Department of the City of New York, we will do everything in our power to ensure that the children of Peru fully enjoy the clinics and the moments we are able to spend with them.  It's nice to play in other countries representing our department, but more so giving them soccer balls and sports clothing for those in need, which makes our hearts full," said NYPD Lt. Ronald Mejia.
