You sent along your #AskKosuke questions to @NewYorkRedBulls on Twitter, and we passed them along to Kosuke after Wednesday's training session. Here's what he had to say in response to your Tweets.
Kosuke Kimura: The reason why I got there is because John Spencer, the ex-coach for the Timbers, knew me well. He was an assistant coach in Houston and I played against them all the time and they liked me. He always knew me and the type of player I was, so he was happy to get me over there. But after I got there, maybe a couple of days later, he got fired. And then everything changed. It happens in this business all the time. You sign up for it from when you start as a pro. And that didn’t help me. But obviously this worked out great, and that’s the only thing about it. It was a great organization, great fans, great players, great teammates. Other than that I had no problem.
Kimura: It was definitely a top game and it was a little more personal playing against an old team. But I thought I did pretty well and we couldn’t win, but still one point away is huge for us.
Kimura: I can cook a bunch of stuff and I like to eat all the time. I like sushi too, but I also like the Japanese style of curry.
Kimura: Well it definitely is more of my timing, and running, especially when I run up the field and join the attack.
Kimura: I like the Hawaiian one, with the pineapple and the ham together.
Kimura: Well in Japan it’s definitely more tactical and technical. Because we don’t have as much size and speed there. Which is why in Japan the J-League is more technical than tactical, but here is more physical and speedy and the technique is getting way better. You can tell every year. The reason I came to this country is because, when I was in high school I was going to go pro. I actually had a contract lined up. But I broke my foot and then I couldn’t play for about nine months. So they ripped my contract up. And normally people go pro in Japan after high school, and at that time I was too late and couldn’t make it. So at that time I decided to come to the U.S. because I had if you go to college here you still have a chance to go pro.
Kimura: I would have to say Kawasaki Frontale. That’s the team that I spent time with and I played for them.
Kimura: You know what? When you get there, you don’t want to be annoyed. But at the same time you have to be with someone you can communicate with well, make fun of each other, and all that. As of right now, I’d take Ruben [Bover], because he’s a youngster and he still listens to me. Maybe I can use that a little bit and make him do work for me. I can still manipulate his brain because he’s so young.
Kimura: You know what? I need to step my game up on Twitter. My agent always bothers me with, “Kosuke, you have to do it. You have to do it,” but it’s kind of tough. I’m getting to it little by little. It’s not my nature. I’m just not really into the social network stuff too much.
