MATCH RECAP: Colorado Rapids 2, New York Red Bulls 1 -

Commerce City, Colo. (April 16, 2016) – The New York Red Bulls fell to the Colorado Rapids, 2-1 on Saturday night at a snow-covered Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. Ronald Zubar scored the Red Bulls goal.

Red Bulls goalkeeper Luis Robles set a new MLS record for consecutive complete games played, going the full 90 minutes for the 113th consecutive league match.

Both teams entered on short rest, with New York flying directly to Denver on Thursday after a midweek match at San Jose.

Snow fell throughout the match at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. Following pre-game warm-ups, the field was cleared of snow, and the players were given additional warm-up time before first kick. Half-time was also extended to allow additional time to clear the field.

Jermaine Jones, playing in his first game with the Rapids, opened the scoring in the 21st minute, getting in front of goal and finishing a low end-line cross from Mekeil Williams.

Zubar broke the Red Bulls scoring drought with a free header in the 60th minute. Sacha Kljestan played a second ball in after his corner attempt was played back to his feet. The cross found Zubar at the back post for a clean finish.

The game-winner came in the 82nd minute, when Jones was able to play second-half sub Dominique Badji through the Red Bulls defense. Badji slid down the left side and placed a low shot out of the reach of Robles and inside the far post.

After two straight on the road, the Red Bulls return home on Sunday, April 24, to host Orlando City SC. It will be Wings for Life Night at Red Bull Arena, and the club will also celebrate the 20th anniversary of its inaugural home match. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m., with coverage on Fox Sports 1, Fox Deportes, and the Red Bulls Radio Network on TuneIn.
