POST-GAME NOTES: Real Salt Lake vs. New York Red Bulls


  • The New York Red Bulls lost to Real Salt Lake, 2-1 on Wednesday night at Rio Tinto Stadium. Gideon Baah scored the lone Red Bulls goal, while Luis Robles made one save as New York saw its five-game unbeaten streak come to an end.
  • The Red Bulls are now 7-8-1 on the season and are currently in second place in the Eastern Conference with 22 points after a 1-6-0 start to the season. New York is 6-2-1 over its last eight matches. Philadelphia leads the East with 26 points (7-4-5).
  • New York is 5-6-8 all-time against Real Salt Lake, including a 0-5-5 mark in games played at RSL.
  • Real Salt Lake allowed a goal in the first 15 minutes for the first time this season as Gideon Baah scored in the seventh minute.
  • It was Baah’s second career MLS goal as he scored on a header off a corner kick from Sean Davis. It was Davis’ second career assist.
  • Per OPTA, New York has nine headed goals this season, most in MLS. The next closest team has six.
  • Luis Robles and the Red Bulls saw their shutout streak end at 472 minutes in MLS play, the longest streak in MLS this season. The previous longest scoreless streak in MLS this season was 412 minutes, held by Chicago.
  • New York had several new faces in the starting XI tonight as Sean Davis, Alex Muyl, Anatole Abang and Justin Bilyeu all started for the Red Bulls.
  • Prior to tonight, the Red Bulls held opponents scoreless for the last five competitive matches, including U.S. Open Cup. The scoreless streak across all competitions was 562 minutes.
  • Previously, the last goal New York allowed was in the 43rd minute of a 2-0 loss to D.C. United on May 13.
  • Aurelien Collin was issued a red card in the 90th minute of the match, and will be suspended for Saturday’s game in Columbus.
