The New York Red Bulls will take on Liga MX side Club America at Red Bull Arena in a friendly on Wednesday, July 6 at 8 pm E.T. (Radio: Red Bulls Radio in English/Spanish on TuneIn).  Club America will be the second Liga MX team to visit Red Bull Arena and it will be the club’s first trip to the New York metro area since 2011.

This will be the first meeting between the two clubs and will be the first time since 2014 that a Mexican club has played at Red Bull Arena when Guadalajara played Bayern Munich.

The Red Bulls are no strangers to international club friendlies as they have hosted some of Europe and the world’s best teams since Red Bull Arena opened.  Last year, New York defeated both Chelsea of the English Premier League and S. L. Benfica of Portugal’s Primeira Liga in the International Champions Cup.  Manchester United, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Juventus are some of the other teams that have visited Red Bull Arena in the past.

Club America owns the record for most Liga MX titles with 16 as well as winning the most CONCACAF Champions League titles with 7.  They are back-to-back winners of the Champions League, winning the title in 2015 after defeating the Montreal Impact in the final and Mexican side Tigres in 2016.

Although it is a friendly, this will be a good look for the Red Bulls at a tough Mexican team and a way to prepare themselves for the knockout stages of the upcoming CONCACAF Champions League, should they advance past the group stage.  Although Club America will not be in this year’s competition, a Mexican team has won every competition since 2006, so a matchup with a Liga MX team at some point in the knockout stage would be likely.

Following the match, the Red Bulls will stay at home for a regular-season matchup against the Portland Timbers on Sunday, July 10.  Kickoff is set for 6 pm E.T. (Facebook Live, Radio: Red Bulls Radio in English/Spanish on TuneIn).  Tickets for all Red Bulls home matches are available by visiting www.NewYorkRedBulls.com/tickets or calling 1.877.727.6223.
