New York Red Bulls History Against The First Three Opponents of 2017 MLS Season

The first three weeks of the 2017 MLS regular season have been announced and the New York Red Bulls are set to kick off the season on the road against expansion side Atlanta United FC, followed by hosting the home opener against Colorado Rapids. The following week, the Red Bulls will travel to the Pacific Northwest where they will face the MLS Cup champions, Seattle Sounders FC.



Here are some stats and facts about the Red Bulls’ history against their upcoming opponents in the 2017 MLS season:


  • The New York Red Bulls are 6-8-7 all-time in their opening game of the MLS season.

  • In Home Openers, the Red Bulls are 12-4-5 in 21 games at Giants Stadium and Red Bull Arena all-time.

  • New York is 15-18-7 against Colorado Rapids in MLS competitions. The Red Bulls have struggled in recent years against Colorado, posting a 1-2-2 record against them since 2012.

  • Against Seattle Sounders FC, New York is 4-4-3 all-time. The Red Bulls defeated the MLS Cup champions in their only meeting last season, 2-0, at Red Bull Arena.

  • New York is 17-6-10 all-time against expansion teams in their inaugural seasons. The Red Bulls have never faced expansion team Atlanta United FC, who will be participating in their first MLS season.


New York will open competitive play in 2017 in the CONCACAF Champions League against MLS-side Vancouver Whitecaps FC on February 22 at Red Bull Arena and BC Palace on March 2.
