Match Preview: New York Red Bulls at Vancouver Whitecaps for SCCL Second Leg

Bradley Wright-Phillips SCCL Leg 1

Red Bulls take on Whitecaps Thursday at 10 p.m. ET

HARRISON, N.J. (February 28, 2017) – The New York Red Bulls are in Vancouver on Thursday night to take on Vancouver Whitecaps FC in the second leg of the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals. The teams enter the second leg tied 1-1 after last week’s match at Red Bull Arena.

As with the first leg, a Spanish language broadcast will be available on Univision Deportes. An English stream will be provided through the CONCACAF Facebook page. Red Bulls Radio will also broadcast the match in English, with Matt Harmon live from Vancouver. Red Bulls Radio kicks off with Countdown to Kickoff at 9:30 p.m. ET.

The first tiebreaker in the event of an aggregate tie is away goals. With Vancouver’s goal last week at Red Bull Arena, New York will need to score at least one goal to advance. If the second leg ends in a 0-0 draw, Whitecaps FC advance on away goals. The teams only head to extra time in the event of a 1-1 tie in Vancouver on Thursday night.

Bradley Wright-Phillips picked up where he left off on Wednesday night, scoring the Red Bulls goal in the first competitive match of the year. The two-time MLS Golden Boot winner found a loose ball in the box and fired a strike from the penalty spot to tie the game in the 62nd minute. Gonzalo Veron and Sal Zizzo both earned assists on the play.

New York outside back Kemar Lawrence will be available for selection after being suspended for the first leg due to yellow card accumulation in the group stage.

Following the match, New York will travel directly to Atlanta to open the 2017 MLS schedule against Atlanta United FC on Sunday, March 5 at 7:30 p.m. ET (FS1, Fox Deportes, Red Bulls Radio).

The Red Bulls are next home on Saturday, March 11, when the Colorado Rapids visit Red Bull Arena at 4 p.m.
